The sports world also sympathizes intensely with the sad fate of little Rayan. A Moroccan footballer now even offers to buy a fully furnished house for his parents. “To give them a little joy in their lives,” Abderrazak Hamdallah says.
The rescue of the Moroccan toddler came just too late. Rayan was rescued on Saturday evening from the deep well in which he fell four days before, but he was already dead.
“Our hearts were snatched”
Messages of support poured in from all over the world. However, Hamdallah is now going one step further by offering a house. “We have had some difficult days. Whether you are Moroccan, Arab or Muslim, our hearts were snatched. I offer my deepest condolences to Rayan’s family and I ask God to give them comfort.”
“On behalf of my family and all Moroccans, I have also decided to bring a little joy into the lives of his parents and his brothers. That is why I will give them a fully furnished house as a present.”
Nora Gharib in tears
Hamdallah is an attacker who has played 14 times for his country. After passages in Norway, China and Qatar, he is now active in Saudi Arabia.
Emotions sometimes ran high in their own country. Actress Nora Gharib burst into tears when she heard the terrible news during the live broadcast of ‘Dancing with the stars’. And AA Gent player Tarik Tissoudali took off his shirt after his goal to reveal the inscription “Rayan” and the Arabic text “We belong to Allah and to Him we will return”.
