Morgan Motor Company has unveiled the new Super 3: the three-wheel successor to the historic “Three Wheeler”, with elements that recall the “F-Series”. From the 120 HP and 150 Nm Ford engine, to the renewed interior with the central dials no longer analogue but digital. Ready to be ordered
A little over a year ago, the British Morgan Motor Company had given the welcome, for the second time in 113 years of history, to the famous “Three Wheeler”. But after some announcements the new generation of the British three-wheeler was finally presented. It’s called Super 3, and for the first time ever the vehicle features a “Superformed” aluminum monocoque architecture, which not only “guarantees a lighter and stiffer frame – writes the Worchestershire house, in a note on its website – but it also benefits the car’s dynamic capacity, improving safety and ensuring more space in the driver’s compartment “.

The Super 3 succeeds the historic “Three Wheeler” but retains a strong link with the “F-Series”, despite the three-wheeler – presented for the first time in 1932 – will no longer be equipped with a V-Twin engine but will be pushed from a 1.5-liter Ford EcoBoost “Dragon” three-cylinder in-line powertrain. The engine, located at the front, is combined with a five-speed manual gearbox derived from the Mazda MX-5 Miata and connected to the rear wheels via a carbon fiber reinforced belt. The maximum power output is 120 HP at 6,500 rpm and 150 Nm of maximum torque, with a top speed of almost 210 km / h and 0-100 km / h acceleration in seven seconds flat.

Compared to the previous three-wheeler model, the Super 3 features new suspensions relocated to the bodywork (and therefore no longer visible as in the old models) as well as improved sideblades, which “efficiently manage the incoming air flow” thus allowing the cooling of the side radiators (also renewed), encapsulated in extremely thin and flat panels. In the passenger compartment, which is not accessed through the doors (absent) but by climbing over the frame, the steering wheel and pedals can be adjusted to find the correct driving position. The driver’s seat and the passenger seat are divided by the transmission tunnel. There are also some USB sockets, while any internal part, Morgan writes on his website, “is completely dust-tight and knows how to protect itself from splashes of water from any direction”. The upholstery can be in leather, technical fabric and vinyl.

The standard features include the lockable glove box, LED lighting, heating in the lower area of the passenger compartment and the tonneau cover (to cover the passenger compartment). The minimalist dashboard features the traditional Morgan dials mounted in the center, but no longer analog as in the cars of the past, but digital, surrounded by metal edges and black or silver finishes. On the other hand, the engine start and stop button is taken from the previous “Three-Wheeler” models. Several details derive from the electric EV3 concept, shown at Goodwood in June 2015, but it is not yet known whether a green version of the Super 3 will be released, although Morgan has previously experimented with an Ev variant of the “Three-Wheeler”.
Morgan Super 3: costs and equipment

3,581mm long, 1,850mm wide, 1,132mm high, the new Super 3 weighs 635kg unladen and is already available to order at dealerships in the UK and around the world. The deliveries, writes the British house, will begin first for European customers, and then precede with shipments to the USA, Japan, Australia and other overseas states. The price of an example starts from 41,995 pounds (at current exchange rate 50,210 euros) excluding shipping costs, a price in line with the launch in 2021 of the special edition Morgan 3 Wheeler “P101” (limited series of 33 units). There are four colors for the wheel covers (Silver Gloss Metallic, Black Gloss Solid, Graphite Satin Metallic, Match Side Blade Color), two for the front frame (Dark Gray and Silver). Finally, seventeen external colors, all available in glossy or matte finish.
