So far on New Year’s Eve, the Berlin fire brigade has responded to more than 40 firefighting operations within the space of one hour.
► Currently, around 9:30 p.m., around 60 emergency services alone are busy with a larger basement fire in Urbanstraße in Berlin-Kreuzberg, said a fire department spokesman. It was initially unclear whether there were also injuries there, the rescuers are currently viewing several residents with respiratory irritation from smoke.
► In the avenue of cosmonauts in Marzahn there was a fire in a garbage collection room. The fire brigade was able to extinguish the fire quickly, nobody was injured. Firecrackers thrown in the room were probably to blame.

► Garbage also burned in Neukölln, in Weser Strasse, and the fire brigade was able to prevent the flames from spreading to parked vehicles. Fireworks are believed to have started the fire.

Since 7:00 p.m. on Saturday evening, the fire brigade has been in the “state of emergency on New Year’s Eve”. This means that about three times as many emergency services are on the road as usual. According to the fire brigade, more than 1200 forces are deployed.
The Berlin police were also in a state of emergency. On Twitter, she informed about numerous fights, confiscated alarm pistols, rocket fire on buildings and passers-by, as well as attacks on rescue services and a balcony fire.
In the Tiergarten district, four people had climbed into the zoo and had to be taken out by officials.
