The campaign is increasingly successful. More than 100 poems have already been adopted in the four West Coast municipalities, with the support of the libraries. “It was a great success for our Viertorre libraries,” says library employee Matthias Zwaenepoel from Koksijde. “More than a hundred poems have been given a place in Nieuwpoort, De Panne, Veurne and Koksijde.”
Librarian Emily Delhaye also sees the enthusiasm growing. “We think it’s great that so many people participate, both entrepreneurs and residents. During a walk you see poems popping up everywhere, which makes it very special.”
The orphan poems remain on the windows until they disappear during the next cleaning. But by then, Poetry Day is often in sight, traditionally on the last Thursday of January.
