In 2024, 12.8 percent of the inhabitants of the Flemish Region, or around 860,000 people, lived in poverty or social exclusion. This is evident on Tuesday from figures from Statistics Flanders. This concerns people who live in a household with an income under the poverty threshold or with severe material and social deprivation. It is also about people who are younger than 65 and live in a household with very low work intensity.
