The eclipse started at 5.27 pm. At 8.12 pm, just after the moon rise, the embezzlement reached its peak. Because the sun in the Netherlands only underwent around 8.15 pm, the moon would be clearly visible here from 8.25 pm. A spokesperson for Weeronline explains that the moon was still too low at that time, causing clouds above the horizon hindering the sight. When the moon was finally high enough, the embezzlement was already over its peak. Nevertheless, it is still clear that the moon “has an orange color with a dark haze in the shade,” said the spokesperson.

A lunar eclipse takes place when the earth is exactly between the sun and the moon. The moon ends up in the shadow of the earth. A part of the sunlight still reaches the moon because it is scattered and deflected in the earth’s atmosphere. This gives the moon a reddish color.
