The motion was withdrawn after the controversy that emerged in the city council. The CEO of the red and whites: “We will evaluate how to respond like Fininvest”

The Monza stadium will not be named after Silvio Berlusconi: the hypothesis definitively faded during Thursday’s city council, when Martina Sassoli of the mixed group announced the withdrawal of the motion, which had been presented on 12 June 2023 to celebrate the the only president to have brought Monza to Serie A. The about-face came after an hour and a half of debate which had been preceded by a suspension requested by the minority to clarify the line to be taken. The choice arose from the desire to prevent the rejection from “further scarring Berlusconi’s memory” according to what the councilor said.

Adriano Galliani, CEO of Monza, spoke on the topic today on the sidelines of the Serie A League Assembly: “Controversy over the naming of the Brianteo stadium after Berlusconi? It’s a delicate topic, which I prefer not to address. There have been declarations and now we will evaluate how Fininvest should respond.
