Team shaped by the former red and white coach: the stars Mota Carvalho and Gytkjaer, the ride of Sampirisi and Paletta, the imagination of Colpani and D’Alessandro and the genius of Machin
Yet another feat of Silvio Berlusconi and Adriano Galliani. Their Monza was promoted tonight for the first time in Serie A in 110 years of existence. What seemed like a historic curse for the red and white club could only be broken by the most successful couple in our football: Berlusconi and Galliani with this promotion have risen to 31 trophies together, of which 29 at the helm of Milan.
SILVIO AND ADRIANO: A ROMANTIC ADVENTURE
–
“Adriano, go and do”. This is how, on a Monday in September 2018, Silvio Berlusconi’s romantic red and white project was born. It is the moment that changes the history of Monza: the Cavaliere, during one of the usual lunches on Monday, offers his family and top managers to buy the club. The enthusiasm of those present is great and so here is the mandate for Adriano Galliani to buy Monza, at that moment in the Lega Pro. And it was also historic that Silvio Berlusconi’s first time at Brianteo (now U-Power Stadium), with that his speech in the locker room (“He who believes us fights, he who believes us overcomes obstacles, he who believes us wins”) which has become the leitmotif of the ride to Serie A. A path that the Monza doc Adriano Galliani has made by releasing competence and passion, taking on the role of Ulysses who returned to Ithaca. A journey that the CEO Brianza defined as his “Way to Santiago”: the goal of the favorite match in Serie A against Milan has been reached.
STROPPA: A CLOSING CIRCLE
–
Silvio Berlusconi and Adriano Galliani are the key men of this promotion. But Monza also entered the hearts of Fininvest top managers (CEO Danilo Pellegrino sits on the red and white board of directors) and clearly of Paolo Berlusconi, the president of Monza. And then in this historic promotion there is the hand of Mr. Giovanni Stroppa, who in the summer took the bench that had belonged to Cristian Brocchi (to whom the merit of the promotion to Serie B two years ago remains). Stroppa succeeded in bringing Monza to Serie A at the first attempt: a circle that is closed, considering that “Giuàn” or “Giovannino”, as everyone in Brianza calls him, had already made the red and white fans dream as a football player late eighties. Stroppa, who repeated his promotion to Serie A at the helm of Crotone, had the merit of making his offensive 3-5-2 successful and modern. And above all he was a great psychologist, confirming Galliani’s investiture: “For his character and ability to play down, Stroppa recalls Ancelotti”.
MOTA CARVALHO: THE RISING STAR
–
The captain Sampirisi, the former Milan player Paletta, the unpredictable Machin and the reserve goalkeepers Lamanna and Sommariva (together with sporting director Filippo Antonelli) can boast of the ride from Lega Pro to Serie A with the Monza shirt. And then there is the Portuguese Dany Mota Carvalho. One who seems to have a clear path to great football. Arriving in Brianza in January 2020 from Juventus Under 23, the 24-year-old striker has shown that he has all the credentials to quickly become what in Portuguese is called “craque” and in Italian, simply, a champion. Raised in the myth of Cristiano Ronaldo, Dany is the antidote to boredom for the red and white fans: his accelerations, his unstoppable qualities as an unstoppable all-rounder and his high-class plays have been decisive in the most balanced matches. A talent, which went in double figures this year, which has already ended up in the spotlight of the main European clubs, also thanks to the magnificent double goal (complete with an overhead kick) that last summer eliminated Italy Under 21 at the European Championship.
THE OTHER PROTAGONISTS
–
The secret of this Monza is then that of a squad of two owners per position. Everyone has given their contribution to make history. Inter school goalkeeper Di Gregorio confirmed his superior category, while in defense the experience of Donati, Paletta, Sampirisi, Caldirola and Marrone was precious, combined with the freshness of Brazilian talent Carlos Augusto. In midfield Mazzitelli’s dynamism, Molina’s determination, Barberis’ geometry, Colpani and D’Alessandro’s imagination and Machin’s genius stand out. While in attack, where the light of the star Ramirez was dimmed by injuries, Valoti played the role of the false nueve and the Dane Gytkjaer. But the man of providence was Patrick Ciurria: his signature on the victory of Cittadella in nine against eleven at the beginning of March was decisive for arriving at the magical night of Pisa.
