Bocchetti’s team takes the lead with Caprari on a penalty, then is reached and surpassed by goals from Zortea and Piccoli and ends up with 10 men (red card for D’Ambrosio)
Cagliari wins 2-1 in Monza by recovering from Caprari’s penalty. Zortea and Piccoli scored for a victory that relaunched the Sardinians.
CAPRARI ILLUSION
—
Bocchetti confirms that he wants to keep Djuric and Maldini on the bench, so he chooses to start with Mota Carvalho as offensive reference behind whom Ciurria and Caprari act. No double center forward for Nicola: Piccoli is there, not Pavoletti who starts from the bench. After 2′ Cagliari immediately came close to scoring with an acrobatic play by Felici from a corner: the ball hit the crossbar and Caldirola freed. On the reversal in front, rapid descent by Pedro Pereira to the left, low cross for Ciurria who turns and hits Mina’s hand. After an audio comparison with the VAR room, Di bello checks the monitor and awards the penalty kick. Caprari goes from the spot: low corner to the right of Scuffet and the ball into the net. After 6′ Monza is ahead. The match is also open in the practical sense because two passes are enough for each of the two teams to find themselves in the opposing area. In the 15th minute Turati flies to deflect Viola’s cross shot from the edge. In the 22nd minute Cagliari equalised: long action by the Sardinians, wrapping around the area, the ball came from the left towards the center to Zortea who controlled and shot from the edge. Beautiful goal, Turati can’t do anything. Shortly after the half hour, Mina suffered an injury as she placed her right ankle badly. At first it seems serious, then the Colombian returns and tries to stay on the pitch. In the 40th minute Bondo wastes a good ball from the edge, high over the crossbar. In the 42nd minute there’s an opportunity for Cagliari: Viola’s free kick, Adopo heads in and sends the ball just wide. The first half ends 1-1 under the eyes of Marta Fascina, Silvio Berlusconi’s former partner, during one of the rare public appearances.
AMBROSIO RED
—
We start again without changes. The first arrive in the 10th minute: Bianco and Djuric come on for Sensi and Mota Carvalho. One minute and the Sardinians pass. Bianco carries the ball and loses it on the opponent’s midfield, Obert recovers it and rides alone for 40 metres, unloads on the outside for Piccoli who charges the right and strikes Turati. Cagliari ahead 2-1 and some chants start from the Pieri curve towards the Monza players (“Bring out the ic…”). In the 16th minute, a great opportunity for Pedro Pereira who gets in front of Scuffet who does well to block the Portuguese’s touch. In the 18th minute Mina-D’Ambrosio clash, the two connect from the ground and the Monza defender “kicks” the Colombian to get up. Di Bello, recalled by VAR, draws the red card. Monza with ten men and one goal down. After a few minutes Mina is unable to continue (perhaps due to the distortion in the first half) and Wieteska enters. In the 30th minute Maldini and Akpa Akpro enter for Pedro Pereira and Bondo and Lapadula and Augello for Piccoli and Felici. The match slips towards the end, Pavoletti comes on for Viola, Marin for Makoumbou and Martins for Caprari. The result does not change (post from Lapadula and great reflex from Scuffet on Birindelli’s cross). Monza ends the first half of the season last with just one victory: saving themselves will be a challenge. While Cagliari, waiting for Lecce, rises to fourth-last place.
