Montpellier’s Omlin is probably Borussia Mönchengladbach’s dream solution for the summer successor

Also Salzburg’s Köhn theme

Borussia Mönchengladbach has apparently identified a candidate for the goalkeeper position should Yann Sommer (34), who was heavily courted by FC Bayern, leave the club in winter. The “picture” and “sky“ report unanimously that Jonas Omlin (28) from Montpellier HSC is the ideal solution for a possible successor. According to reports, talks about a change have been going on for days.

It is said that the goalkeeper has already told his club officials that he wants to switch to the “foals”, but the French are now refusing to release him. The reasons for this are said to be that Montpellier is in a relegation battle and hiring a successor would be too expensive. Meanwhile, according to the TV broadcaster “Sky”, the price for Omlin is 10 million euros, which could make it one of the most expensive departures in the club’s history.

Have a say about Borussia MönchengladbachRight this way
Omlin underlined his ambitions in the Transfermarkt interview in October. “It is clear that I would like to play in one of the top four leagues at some point. But it’s a long way to go and until then it’s my duty to put my heart into every game for Montpellier,” he said. The Swiss and four-time national player switched from FC Basel to Montpellier in 2020 for 6 million euros and has since made 72 appearances in which he has not conceded 15 times. Although Omlin was among the losers in France’s latest market value update, dropping €1m in value, he is one of the most valuable goalkeepers in Ligue 1 at €7m. His contract expires in 2024.

Borussia Mönchengladbach: Salzburg’s Köhn also a candidate for the summer successor

Omlin, meanwhile, isn’t the only goalkeeper linked with Borussia. If the name of Mathew Ryan (30) from FC Copenhagen recently circulated through the TM rumor mill, according to “Sky” Philipp Köhn (24) from Red Bull Salzburg is also a candidate for a summer successor. The German-born Swiss has been observed by Borussia for a long time, it is said. However, there have been no negotiations between the two clubs so far. Former DFB junior Köhn has a contract with the Austrian series champions that runs until 2025.
