Mont Blanc Tunnel: night closures from April to June

The tunnel connecting Courmayeur to Chamonix will be closed for several nights between April and June 2024 to carry out maintenance work

After those that involved the long stop that lasted from 16 October to 18 December 2023, new maintenance works are planned on the Mont Blanc tunnel which will lead to the tunnel to close for several nights between 8 April and 18 June 2024. In particular, there will be 5 midweek closures lasting 10 hours and 30 minutes (from 7.30 pm to 6.00 am) and 27 those lasting 12 hours and 30 minutes (from 7.00 pm to 7.30 am). Upon completion of the works, an extended closure of 30 hours and 30 minutes is expected, which will start on June 20th at 11.30pm. There will be closures all midweek and on working days: access to the tunnel remains guaranteed during weekends and public holidays in Italy and France.

The works will concern a section of road deck in the central section of the tunnel: in particular, support slabs for the road surface will be removed and replaced along 240 meters of roadway. These maintenance works are the latest in a larger project, which began in 2018, concerning the rehabilitation of a 1,700 meter stretch of road. The total cost of the project was 60 million euros, of which 6 were allocated for the spring 2024 works.
