Moderators Wontorra and Kerner swap TV channels

The home European Championships in 2024 also pose major challenges for TV broadcasters. Now two of them have probably developed an exciting plan for the tournament. It’s about moderation.

The European Football Championship starts in Germany in a few months. A number of tickets for the games have already been taken. Many fans will therefore probably have to use their own TV sets in order to be able to follow the German national team’s games live.

Most of the games can be seen on free TV: 34 on ARD and ZDF (including all DFB appearances), twelve on RTL. There are also five games available exclusively on the pay-TV channel MagentaTV, which also has all other games in the tournament in its program.

According to a report, there is also a bizarre deal between RTL and MagentaTV regarding the European Championship. Specifically affected: the moderators Laura Wontorra and Johannes B. Kerner.

Channel swap: RTL and MagentaTV still cautious

Wontorra, who has also worked for DAZN, Sky and Sport1, will moderate the European Championships for RTL, while TV veteran Kerner will moderate for MagentaTV. But as “Bild” writes, both will also be covering the games for the other broadcaster during the tournament. That means: Wontorra and Kerner are swapping channels in the meantime.

It is not yet clear which games the TV change will affect. According to “Bild”, the broadcasters did not want to provide any information about the plans. “We ask for your understanding that we will only discuss the personnel constellation of our cooperation with RTL at a later date and will not comment on speculation,” said MagentaTV. At RTL, the feedback was similar: “We will announce the staffing within the framework of the partnership in due course,” said a spokeswoman for the broadcaster.
