Mo was slaughtered, but men who chased him know nothing

None of the three men who appeared in court on Thursday for the death of Mo Ahmed in Oss in April 2022 actually did anything wrong. They all stated that they knew nothing about a conflict in the drug world or a firearm or anything else. But by the end of the afternoon of April 14, someone was dead.

Mo Ahmed (23) was shot dead when he and his father were attacked by four men on the back of the scooter. Mo was slaughtered with at least five accurate shots, including one from close range in the back of the head. Why was the big question in the court in Den Bosch on Thursday.

There was great irritation among the lawyers. The case has been going on for more than two years and the two brothers Efahan I. (28) and Egemen I. (25) have been waiting for their trial for so long. Anass B. (28) has been in custody for more than a year. And the lawyers think that is unjustified, because they think the men have nothing to do with Mo’s death.

The fourth suspect, Semih Z. (27), is on the run and is in Turkey. He is seen as the one who shot Mo. On the one hand, it was difficult that Semih was not at the hearing, because all parties have plenty of questions for him. But on the other hand, it might also be useful for the three co-suspects.

The three men looked confident in the courtroom and certainly did not appear stupid. They had prepared well and knew how to avoid or counter all kinds of questions about drug trafficking, arguments or weapons.

Mo came towards him angrily
It became clear that Efahan had an argument with Mo earlier in the day ‘for inexplicable reasons’. He had driven to the Leeuwerikhof, where Mo also lived, to visit a friend. When he turned out not to be at home, he suddenly saw Mo approaching him angrily. Efahan jumped into his car. Mo tried to hit him through the window and kicked his car.

Angry, Efahan drove away and gathered about six friends that afternoon at a garage on the Friezenweg in Oss. Footage in the courtroom showed the men gathering and collecting a knife, a drill and a crowbar as hand weapons.

They wanted to go to the Leeuwerikhof to resolve the conflict. None of the three suspects knew that Semmih Z. had a firearm with him, they stated. They only brought some sidearms to impress.

Shot
Once at the Leeuwerikhof, the four suspects flew out of a black Ford and, according to witnesses, it did not look like ‘talking things out’. The three other men, who arrived in a white Mercedes, did not get out and are therefore no longer prosecuted. Mo’s scooter was kicked, which drove past the two cars towards the exit of the parking lot, and very soon shots were fired.

However, none of the three had done anything after jumping out of the car, they said. No one wanted to say who had kicked the scooter. The men did state that they saw that there were bullet holes in Mo and that they were shocked and then went back into the car and fled.

According to witnesses, shots were fired by the man who got out of the back right side of the dark Ford. He had his face partially covered. And Efahan also confirmed that Semih was the shooter. “I shot him in the head, he shouted,” Efahan said. “He had the devil in his head, he said, and he was screaming and making strange noises. I told him he had ruined my life and that of my brother.”

“He was crazy in his head,” said brother Egenet I., who, according to his brother, was sitting at the wheel as pale as a ghost. A little further on, Semih Z. was thrown out of the car. A few days later the brothers left for Turkey. “I didn’t know if I was a witness or a suspect, but I had done nothing.” In August the brothers returned and were arrested.

Mo was an errand boy
Mo Ahmed was an errand boy for an Osse drug gang. Both Anass, Egenet and Efanah denied in court that they also belonged to a gang. They didn’t argue with Mo or anything either. His gang did more in heroin, she did more in party drugs, Efanah explained.

An argument must have arisen somewhere and it escalated somewhere, that’s how you can interpret it after the first day of the trial. But it was not clear exactly why the argument happened and why Semmih Z. immediately started shooting instead of talking it out. The trial will continue next Tuesday and Wednesday and the justice department will present its view on the case and the sentencing requirements.

They will not be lenient, because the justice system believes that all men are jointly responsible for the death of Mo Ahmed. After all, they have agreed to visit him with weapons. They tackled Mo, shots were fired and they also helped the shooter to flee.

In addition to the judiciary, the relatives and the lawyers of the three suspects will also have their say.

The court will rule in this case on February 13.
