MLS transfer: Hugo Lloris leaves Tottenham for LAFC

Postecoglou prefers Vicario

Tottenham Hotspur loses its most loyal professional in the second half of the season. Hugo Lloris, who has been under contract with the Premier League club since summer 2012, will move to Los Angeles FC in America when the transfer window opens on January 31st. The Frenchman receives a working paper for one season, which can be extended for another two years via an option.

At Tottenham, Lloris, who is one of the most used “Spurs” professionals in history, lost his regular place in goal under the new coach Ange Postecoglou, who came in before the season and is relying on newcomer Guglielmo Vicario (27). The French world champion from 2018 was allowed to look for a new club in the summer and would have been free of charge next year. It is unclear whether a transfer fee will be due six months before the end of the contract.

The Major League Soccer season begins on February 24, 2024 with Inter Miami’s game against Real Salt Lake. LAFC became champions last year and only lost in the final this year to Columbus Crew.
