Mexico star Carlos Vela gave up his football shoes at the age of 36. “In the course of my career I experienced some very special moments, but now the time has come to officially withdraw from professional football,” wrote the attacker on Instagram. “There are not enough words to express the gratitude that I have for my family, all clubs that gave me the opportunity and feel the fans for their support and affection. (…) It was an honor and a privilege to share my career with all of them.”
Velas Stern opened the 2005 U17 World Cup when he shot Mexico as a top scorer. The promotion of the storm talent then won the Arsenal FC, who initially had Vela collected in Spain. From 2008 he wore the Gunners jersey, but could not prevail. The big breakthrough in Europe was achieved by Vela near Real Sociedad, for which he completed the most missions with 250 games from 2011. He contributed 73 goals and 43 templates, and its market value reached the career high value of 20 million euros in 2013.
Vela then experienced his most successful time from 2018 in the MLS at the newly founded Los Angeles FC. In the second year he led the club as a top scorer – with 32 goals most in one season – and MVP to the supporter ‘Shield, three years later he won the LAFC in addition to this award, but also the first championship. With 189 games and 93 goals, Vela is a record player and goal scorer from The Black and Gold. For Mexico, Vela played 72 caps (19 goals), he took part in two World Championships (2010, 2018) and won the Gold Cup (2009, 2015) twice.
“Those to build the LAFC and to win trophies with the association is a highlight of my career,” said Vela. “This club means so much to me and my family and I am proud of everything we have achieved together with the great fans of Los Angeles. I look forward to starting the next chapter of my trip here in LA.” Vela remains as the first club representative to the association, for which he still completed a short assignment last year.
