Mixed relay team with Tony van Diepen and Lieke Klaver ensures silver at the World Cup

The first North Holland medal at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene has been achieved. 26-year-old Tony van Diepen (Heerhugowaard) and 23-year-old Lieke Klaver (Enkhuizen) took silver with Femke Bol and Liemarvin Bonevacia in the 4×400 meter mixed relay.

The silver medal was achieved with a Dutch record (3.09.90). The old record was in 2021 in the Olympic games walked by Bonevacia, Bol, Klaver and Ramsey Angela (3.10,36). The gold went to the Dominican Republic with a difference of just 0.08 seconds. America completed the podium. This place was the twentieth for the Netherlands in total in the history of the World Championships in athletics.

Final Painter

In addition to Van Diepen and Klaver, there was also success for Jessica Schilder. The 23-year-old Volendam qualified fourth for the final in the shot put. She punched from a distance of 19.16 meters.

Competitors Sarah Mitton and Chase Ealey provided peace of mind for debutante Schilder, who was quite tense. “We’re not opponents, but friends. I asked them why they were so quiet. You’re here for a reason, they said. You just have to do what you’re good at and that’s those shot puts. Relax and enjoy it, was their message,” said the Volendam against the NOS.

Schilder is in the final of the shot put tonight. The other two Dutch participants, Jorinde van Klinken and Benthe König, did not make the selection. The World Athletics Championships will run from July 15 to July 24.
