Mix Festival 2023: International LGBTQ+ Cinema and Queer Culture

46 ttitles of which 32 are Italian premieres: from 28 September to 1 Octoberreturn to Piccolo Teatro Strehler and the Piccolo Teatro Studio Melato in Milanthe MiX International Festival of LGBTQ+ Cinema and Queer Culture now in its 37th edition.

To the three international competitions – Feature films, documentaries and short films – is added Queer Music Video Competitionborn in collaboration with the creative hub Futuro Solido, with the aim of intercept and promote new queer talents and to present new ways of narrating LGTBQ+ identities through other media. To judge these works one jury composed of the costume designer Sabrina Polh, the performer La B. Fujiko and the artist Dogyorke.

Opens its doors on Thursday 28 September at the Piccolo Teatro Strehler – the Italian preview of Mutt of the debutant Vuk Lungulov-Klotzsurprise of the last one Sundance festival, where the interpreter Lio Mehiel won the US Dramatic Special Jury Award for Best Acting, and of the 73rd Berlinale in which he was awarded the Special Mention of the Generation 14plus International Jury.

The Feature Film Competition will be evaluated by the jury chaired by the director and screenwriter Roberta Torreand composed by the costume designer, twice nominated for an Oscar, Massimo Cantini Parriniby the President of the Diversity Foundation and writer Francesca Vecchioniby the actress Vittoria Schisano and by the artistic director of the Bilbao Zine LGBTQ+ film festival Goak Alaitz Arenzana Letamendi.

Among the unmissable, Conann by Bertrand Mandicoa queer reinterpretation of the heroic fantasy character Conan the Barbarian Silver Hazea feature film that delves into the lonely and bleak lives of British working-class womenby Dutch filmmaker Sacha Polak.

A gem from Sweden

Then there is Opponent by the Swede of Iranian origin Milad Alamiwith Payman Maadi, here in the role of a restless Iranian fighter who tries to keep his family together while he applies for asylum to remain in Sweden and, out of competition, Rotting in the Sun by the Chilean author Sebastián Silva

To close the festival – Sunday 1 October, at the Piccolo Teatro Strehler – Four Little Adults by Finnish director Selma Vilhunena funny comedy that tells the story of four adults dealing with the challenges posed by a polyamorous relationship, which has already won an award for Best Performance at the Göteborg Film Festival.

The closing ceremony

It precedes the projection la closing ceremony with the announcement of the winners, hosted by the activist, influencer and radio presenter Florencia Di Stefano-Abichain and by the current winner of Drag Race Italia La Diamond. During the evening there will also be a live performance by the Italian-Brazilian queer artist Ethan.
