Missing the e-commerce train costs us 1 billion euros and 6,000 jobs every year: “And catching up with the train will no longer be possible” | Money

In terms of e-commerce, Belgium lags far behind our neighboring countries, costing our country 1 billion euros and 6,000 jobs every year. That is what the Association of Belgian Enterprises (VBO) has calculated. Belgian consumer demand for e-commerce has increased by a staggering 293% since 2008, but the supply of Belgian companies in distance selling only grew by 93% in the same time frame. As a result, online sales in Belgium are largely in the hands of large foreign platforms, such as Zalando, Amazon, Bol.com and Coolblue.
