Brimin Misoi and Selly Kaptich won the Frankfurt Marathon. The German Hendrik Pfeiffer ended up in seventh place, but missed the goal of staying under 2:10 hours.

The Frankfurt Marathon has reported back with strong performances from the Corona compulsory break. The Kenyan Brimin Misoi surprisingly won the men’s race, finishing in 2:06:11 hours. Selly Kaptich (also from Kenya) won the women’s race in 2:23:11 hours. It even looked like a new Frankfurt record for a long time, but in the end she had to pay tribute to her pace. So Valary Jemeli’s time of 2:19:10 remains.

The German Hendrik Pfeiffer put in a strong performance, finishing seventh. Especially in the second half of the 42.195 kilometer race, Pfeiffer overtook some runners and crossed the finish line in 2:11:28 hours. He missed his personal goal of staying under 2:10 hours, but he was still satisfied. “It was a great experience. I lost time at the back and it got really warm. Crossing the finish line in the Festhalle made up for everything.”

The second German professional, Filimon Abraham, had to give up after about 30 kilometers after a good start. Thea Heil, who got dizzy in the last third, had a similar experience and therefore gave up as well. Corinna Coenning was the 10th best German in 2:40:48 hours.

Early attacks make the difference

The decisions in the women’s and men’s races were made relatively early on. After a good 25 kilometers, Misoi and Kaptich pulled away from their pursuers. Curious about it: Misoi still had his pacemaker Samwel Mailu with him, who untypically pulled through in the end and finished second in 2:07:19 hours.

In the women’s category, Kaptich was followed by her compatriots Helah Kiprop and Jackline Chepngeno. The Italian Sofiia Yaremchuk finished fourth.
