Miroslav Klose new coach at SCR Altach – First head coach post in the professional area

“Football competence undisputed”

The Austrian Bundesliga club SCR Altach presented Miroslav Klose as their new coach on Friday. For the 44-year-old ex-striker it is his first position as head coach in the professional field. Most recently, he worked as an assistant under Hansi Flick at FC Bayern until the summer of 2021. After that, the 2014 world champion had to recover from a thrombosis. The club did not say how long Klose would sign for. It will be officially presented on Monday.

“I am really looking forward to my new task here in Altach. It was just that positive feeling right from the start that I have to have, that I’m in the right place here. The first talks with those responsible were so open that it was clear to me that I wanted to do it. Now I can’t wait to get to know the team, the people in the club and, of course, the fans,” explained Klose.

Managing Director Christoph Längle added: “Miro Klose is a very big name in football. But it’s not about the name for us, it’s about Miro Klose’s personality, his skills as a coach and what is very important to us at SCR Altach: the people. Known as a hard, down-to-earth worker, Miroslav has risen to the world class. The values he stands for are a perfect match for our club and his football skills are undisputed anyway.”

The SCR had to look for a new coach because the Swiss ex-Bundesliga professional Ludovic Magnin is moving to his home country of FC Lausanne-Sport with an opt-out clause. With Klose they get a trainer with plenty of experience as a professional, among other things he played 307 times in the Bundesliga and 137 times for the German national team. With 16 goals, he is the World Cup record goalscorer.
