Recommendations of the Editorial team

Collien Fernandes has been in the headlines for days after she accused her ex-husband of “digitally raping” her in a sensational “Spiegel” article. The revelation was followed by public protests calling for improvements to the law against digital sexual violence.

This very topic was now the focus of a current edition of “Caren Miosga”, ARD’s Sunday talk show. Guest: Collien Fernandes. Not admitted as a guest for editorial reasons: Ulmen lawyer Christian Schertz.

Attention was guaranteed, but the audience still showed surprisingly little interest in the discussion. Miosga achieved 2.21 million viewers with the program “Digital violence – how can women be better protected?” the lowest range of the current year.

Hardly any interest among young viewers

As “DWDL” reports, the market share of the overall audience was only 10.8 percent. The previously sent “Polizeiruf 110” had 20 percent more, so it was actually an ideal transition. Interestingly, the younger audience was also less impressed by the topic. There were 330,000 viewers among 14 to 49 year olds – market share: 7.6 percent.

Meanwhile, the critical review of “Caren Miosga” was mixed. The “Spiegel” speaks of a successful deepening of the topic that went beyond the Fernandes/Ulmen case, the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” emphasizes that it was a remarkable panel that made it clear how frayed the social debate surrounding the consequences of sexual violence has now become.
