A reality TV star Michele “Minttu” Murphy-Kaulanen said on Monday on his Instagram about his surprising connection with the late pop star to Michael Jackson.
– Going to see the Michael movie today, and the feeling is quite special, Murphy-Kaulanen begins the article.
He posted a picture of an old newspaper that says his father, Marvin Murphyabout life after being the “road manager” of the Jackson 5 band.
– It’s not just music history for me – it’s part of our family’s story, he writes in his Instagram post.
The magazine tells about the fateful meeting between Murphy and the band.
The group was scheduled to fly to Los Angeles on American Airlines when Murphy, who worked for Trans World Airlines (TWA), persuaded them to jump on TWA.
The incident led to Jackson himself inviting Murphy to Thanksgiving dinner. As a result, a close friendship and working relationship developed between Murphy and the Jackson family.
Family memories
Murphy-Kaulanen recalls his family’s stories on the phone to Iltalehte.
According to him, Marvin’s father and grandmother spoke warmly about the Jacksons in their stories and described them as good people.
He tells how his mother met Jackson’s father and compares what he heard with the descriptions shown in the recent Michael movie.
– From what I’ve been told in stories and what I’ve heard, he was very curative.
Murphy-Kaulanen says that the film also conveyed the same image. From the whole film experience, the thing that stuck out to him the most was how different his father’s life has been over time.
– However, I come from a culture where my grandmother was not allowed to travel by bus.
He remembers the gig stories told by his father.
– It has been really challenging to get black performers in places. We have historically lived in such a different time.
– The gigging at that time and how to get gigs for the Jackson 5, it was a completely different atmosphere than today.
Murphy-Kaulanen reflects on how much perseverance, determination and self-belief it has taken to be successful in the music industry.
– We think of Michael that he is the king of pop. The fact that he has gotten into that mess has demanded a hell of a lot of everything.

The meaning of music
Murphy-Kaulanen talks about the role of the Jackson 5 band’s music in her life.
– I have completely grown up with that music. It has been really significant for me personally.
He says that as a child he was in the front row with his mother at the band’s stadium gig in Finland. His favorite song from the band is called I’ll be there.
From Jackson’s own production, he again picks up the song Black or White. The song touches Murphy-Kaula with his background.
– It wasn’t really easy to come to Finland at the age of eight and try to adapt here.
A family dream
A magazine article written about Murphy tells about his family dreams. Murphy-Kaulanen says in his Instagram post that Murphy was especially proud when he became a grandfather.
Murphy-Kaulanen’s daughter was born on the same day as her grandfather.
– He didn’t have time to meet other girls. But I know he’s proud of one of his girls in there. If there was anything he could say, it was the love and pride of being my Daddy, he sums it up in his publication.
