If it is up to infrastructure minister Barry Madlener, Eindhoven will have half a billion euros to keep the Brainport region accessible. The PVV minister has made a so-called starting decision to further elaborate measures for this.
Madlener and local drivers want to get started on three points. For example, the A2 must be adjusted. One of the options on the table is to broaden them. It is also necessary to adjust the local roads.
Furthermore, the PVV minister is thinking of new bus lines with separate bus lanes. This ‘for a rapid connection to the economic top locations’.
Finally, there is research into the roads towards the northwest.
Beethoven-Plan
The money comes from the Beethoven plan, hundreds of millions of euros from The Hague that are intended to keep companies like ASML in the Netherlands. Of the 503 million euros, 309 million goes to the A2/N2, 129 million to the bus lines and 65 million to accessibility from the northwest.
The municipalities in question themselves contribute 88 million euros.
The investigations are part of a fixed procedure that the government follows with large infrastructure projects. Madlener expects to make a decision at the end of 2026 about the continuation of the A2/N2. Even then it will take some time before a scoop goes into the ground.
Top facilities
Earlier on Monday, the municipalities themselves announced that, in their eyes, billions of extra are needed to keep the region liveable even after growth. For example, 2.8 billion must be based on basic facilities such as care and education, they have calculated. And there must be six top facilities such as an international museum, a large event location and a national park.
