Minister of Youth and Sports Osman Aşkın Bak stated that he believes that the National Football Team participating in the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be successful in the organization and said, “Our National Football Team will do good work in the World Cup. We believe this wholeheartedly.”
The Milliyet Athlete of the Year Awards, which were held for the 72nd time this year, found their owners at the ceremony. Answering the questions of the press members after the award ceremony, Minister of Youth and Sports Osman Aşkın Bak said, “We were all in Kosovo during the match in which our National Football Team participated in the World Cup after 24 years. It was full of excitement and enthusiasm. Our National Football Team will do good work in the World Cup. We believe this wholeheartedly.”

Stating that 2025 will be a year full of success for Turkish sports, Osman Aşkın Bak said:
“I congratulate our Women’s National Team, which reached the final in the World Championship, our Basketball National Team, which played in the final in the European Championship, our Taekwondo National Team, which became the world champion in women, the weightlifters, individual athletes, Yusuf Dikeç and İlayda Tarhan and many other athletes.
Our National Basketball Team has competitions to qualify for the World Cup. We will organize the 2027 European Games. With the support of our President, the sports facilities and investments we have made, the world’s most modern stadiums, sports facilities and pools are being built in Türkiye. Therefore, successes in sports are coming increasingly. We thank our teams. We wish success to Fenerbahçe, the Euroleague champion in basketball, our women’s volleyball teams, our world champion taekwondo team and all of them.
Sport is life, energy and enthusiasm. As a nation, we desire this. We see the Century of Türkiye as the century of sports. Türkiye will do better in sports and achieve great success. The infrastructure for this has been built and continues. We would like to thank all the technical staff, coaches and sports press. We are a nation that loves excitement, enthusiasm and energy. Hopefully we will continue to experience the excitement of sports together. “Everything is for strong Türkiye, Turkish youth and Turkish sports.”
Speaking about the award ceremony, Minister Osman Aşkın Bak said, “This is where the Turkish sports family gathers, a tradition that has been maintained for 72 years.
