Minister Bruins Slot will visit Iraq on Monday 5 and Tuesday 6 February. She will speak with Iraqi Foreign Minister Hussein and Prime Minister Al Sudani about the latest developments in the Middle East. The minister will also visit the Dutch troops in Baghdad.
The bilateral relationship and the security situation in the region are an important topic of discussion during the bilateral meeting between Bruins Slot, her Iraqi colleague Minister Hussein and Prime Minister Al Sudani. They discuss, among other things, the conflict between Israel and Hamas, the situation on the Red Sea, and the latest developments in Iraq and the region.
After the bilateral meeting, Bruins Slot visits the compound of the NATO Mission in Iraq and the anti-ISIS mission Operation Inherent Resolve. The Netherlands participates in these missions with military personnel and civilian experts. In this way, the Netherlands actively contributes to stability and security in Iraq and the wider region. That is also in the interests of the Netherlands and the EU.
From May, the Netherlands will lead and coordinate the NATO mission with a force commander.
