So far, no other car maker has an official program for converting to an electric drive. So soon it will be. The offer for retrofitting such an electric drive is called “Mini Recharged”.
The combustion engine will be replaced by an electric one, a number of technical elements will be adjusted and the classic central counter on the dashboard will display the battery level instead of the oil pressure.
The carmaker emphasizes that only reversible changes will be made. The original engine is also kept, so that it can be reused should the owner want to undo the conversion.
The battery for the new electric motorization gives the small car a driving range of 160 kilometers. The sprint from 0 to 100 km/h can be done in 9 seconds, a lot faster than with the old combustion engine.
Mini has not disclosed how much such a conversion should cost, but a conversion of a Mini by a professional not affiliated with the brand can easily cost around 10,000 euros.
