“Minecraft”: Jack Black is set to star in the film adaptation

In addition to Jason Momoa and Emma Myers, Jack Black is now also set to take part in the live-action film adaptation.

There will be a film adaptation of the video game “Minecraft”, which will be shown on cinema screens worldwide from April 4, 2025. And Jack Black may also join the cast, as current rumors suggest.

Some actors have already been confirmed

According to reports from Deadline, the 54-year-old is probably on board with the project. However, his specific role remains unclear for the time being and there has not yet been any official confirmation. Even the plot of the “Minecraft” live-action film is currently secret and the screenwriters are not publicly named. However, it has already been announced that “Aquaman” mime Jason Momoa will be at the start. Emma Myers, known from the Netflix series “Wednesday”, and Danielle Brooks (“The Color Purple”) will also appear alongside him. “Napoleon Dynamite” filmmaker Jared Hess, who worked with Black on the 2006 comedy “Nacho Libre,” is directing the work.

Production is scheduled to start in New Zealand in August. Warner Bros. and Legendary are supporting the project. Mojang Studios, the game’s Swedish developer, which was acquired by Microsoft in 2014, is also working on the film adaptation as a producer.

With 300 million copies sold and almost 140 million monthly active players, “Minecraft” is the best-selling video game of all time. In the sandbox-style game, gamers can create 3D worlds with colorful blocks.

Not the first video game for Jack Black

“Minecraft” wouldn’t be Jack Black’s first film adaptation of a video game. The actor already lent his voice to the villain Bowser in “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” in 2023. This time he would not only be heard on “Minecraft”, but also seen.

He will also next be voicing Po in the animated comedy “Kung Fu Panda 4.” The film will be released in theaters on March 8, 2024.
