FC Bayern stops the minute’s silence for Diogo Jota

The mourning for Liverpool star Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva also influence the women’s European Championship and club World Cup. FC Bayern took part.

The sudden death of Diogo Jota shakes the football world. After the fatal traffic accident of the Portuguese international and his brother, FC Bayern held a minute’s silence. Players and coaches held a moment before the club World Cup training before the quarter-finals on Saturday.

The club published a photo of the minute of commemoration at X with the words: “Resting in peace, Diogo and André.” The Bayern professionals Raphaël Guerreiro and João Palhinha used to play with Diogo Jota together in the Portuguese national team.

The UEFA also decided to set a sign of sympathy at the European Women’s Football Championships in Switzerland. A minute’s silence will be held before today’s games and also in the games on Friday – to commemorate the two deceased brothers.

The Portuguese football association initially asked the UEFA to enable a minute’s silence this evening before Portugal’s group game against Spain. The European Association then expanded the memory to all games of the next two game days.

According to Spanish and Portuguese media reports, the brothers Diogo Jota (28) and André Silva (25) had an accident on Autobahn 52 at Cernadilla in the early morning. According to the BBC, an overtaking maneuver occurred. The vehicle is said to have strayed from the road and then caught fire. The rescue workers were only able to determine the death of the two young men.
