The show of ex-judoka Dennis van der Geest is seriously disappointing. SBS 6 promised to distribute one million euros among the candidates who would survive two months on the uninhabited island, but only 170 thousand euros were paid out in the final broadcast yesterday. Viewers are very disappointed about that, reports RTL Boulevard

cheap affair

There is a lot of complaining. “Now say! 17 percent paid out of the million. What a cheap affair from SBS 6 and Talpa”, says one. And the other: “So I know how long you sit on an island to win a million, and it turns out in the final that you can write that on your stomach. Who cares about this next year?”

The question is whether there will be another season. The final of Million Dollar Island yesterday managed to attract only 470 thousand viewers (12% market share) on SBS 6, very little for such an expensive show. Immediately before it, Het Roer Om attracted 404 thousand viewers (9%).

What does Tina say?

What does viewing figures expert Tina Nijkamp, the former channel boss of SBS 6, say? She finds it strange that the million euros has not been paid out. “Very strange, especially with ‘Million Dollar’ in the title of the program,” she says on Instagram.

She is not impressed with this show. “Million Dollar Island will go down in the books as one of the least noticeable reality shows of this season. I think John de Mol will be producing and broadcasting season two with a view to selling the format abroad. With a second season on order, it’s just a little easier to sell.”

Floor on one

The prime time winner yesterday was NPO 1 thanks to Floortje Naar Heteinde Van De Wereld (1.2 million and 27%), Het Dorp (1.2 million and 28%) and Classics with Kleinsma (884 thousand and 24%).

Furthermore, RTL 4’s Een tegen 50 (870 thousand and 20%), NPO 3’s Boerderij van Dorst (695 thousand and 16%) and RTL 4’s Guus Meeuwis: Groots Met Een Soft G (468 thousand and 14%) were the most popular.
