Giving her fans the best of both worlds, Miley Cyrus returns to her Mickey Mouse roots for the “Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special,” airing March 24 on Disney+.
The special will be filmed in front of a live studio audience and will feature an in-depth interview between Cyrus and “Call Her Daddy” host Alex Cooper.. It will also feature previously unseen archival footage and recreations of the series’ most memorable settings, including the Stewart family living room and Hannah Montana’s closet.
Unreleased scenes and possible songs
Disney hinted that Cyrus may also perform some old Hannah Montana songs, as the press release states, “There will also be some familiar notes making their way back into the spotlight.” Some of Hannah’s biggest hits included “Nobody’s Perfect,” “Supergirl” and “If We Were a Movie.”
“Hannah Montana will always be a part of me,” Cyrus said in a statement. “What started as a television series became a shared experience that shaped my life and the lives of so many fans, and I will always be grateful for that connection. The fact that it still means so much to people after all these years makes me very proud. This ‘Hannahversary’ is my way of celebrating and thanking the fans who have stood by me for 20 years.”
20 years of “Hannah Montana”
Cyrus has been announcing a heartfelt project for months to celebrate the series’ 20th anniversary. The series’ first episode, “Lilly, Do You Want to Know a Secret,” aired on March 24, 2006, and introduced the world to spirited teenager Miley Stewart, who leads a secret double life as the world’s biggest pop star.
“I wanted to design something really special for it because it was really the beginning of everything that’s here today,” Cyrus told SiriusXM’s TikTok Radio in July. “Without Hannah, this kind of…me really wouldn’t exist.”
