The basic guidelines remain the same as Elliott, but the failure of last season has imposed a change of philosophy in different areas. And what was before was “taboo”, is now examined

June 21 – 17:22 – MILAN

On the one hand, the company model. On the other, the needs of the sports area, or those called to generate results. The two sides of the moon must necessarily live together, and speak. If there is one thing that Milan has learned – at its expense – in recent years, it is that the management guidelines cannot always travel above all the rest. They must be there, it is clear, but sometimes it is necessary to put it hand. It does not mean disavowing them, but removing them according to the needs of the club. After the financial sink of the Chinese -traction club, it was first necessary to return to the devil a credible financial structure for three reasons: take shelter from the UEFA sanctions, pull the accounts with a view to a future sale and, of course, being able to allow to strengthen the team. The Elliott Fund, who found himself in his hands the club due to Mr. Li’s in default, began a restoration work that was more or less equivalent to climbing an eight thousand without oxygen. Between Elliott and Redbird, financial virtuosity went well and the balance sheet returned to the green color after seventeen years of red. Now, however, other needs are taking over because the model – as it was set only three to four years ago, no longer holds. In the sense that the lack of sporting results is generating losses, missed revenues, players who thank for the adventure and agree where they can have everything immediately. And therefore it is a model that is transforming. Those that seemed inscribable and mandatory guidelines in some cases are no longer so rigorous.

The first thing that leaps the eye is the registry. One of the most “famous” mantras was the players’ age group to bring to Milanello: possibly under 25. With some debt exceptions, of course, as it was for Ibra and Kjaer for example. The idea was – and, basically, it is still – that of putting relatively young people, good but not too famous, and potential capital gain at home. The course of the time, however, made it clear that without some senator it is very hard. That’s why Giroud and Florenzi arrived, for example. But it is above all this year that the question particularly stands out. In theory, the median of the ’25 -26 season could be made up of Modric, Xhaka and Fofana. Apart from the Frenchman, who is 26 years old, we are talking about players who will turn 40 and 33 in September respectively. There was also talk of Rabiot, who has 30. Attending a similar scenario would have been unthinkable until a few years ago. Of course, we are not one step away from that ‘Instant Team That the basic property of the basic sees almost like football blasphemy, but in recent times the orientation has changed. On the other hand, the last one was not simply a bad vintage. It has been disastrous, and to restart it is needed a detachment from the past because repeating the exclusion from the European cups would have dramatic financial implications. So: a wise mix must be taken from the market between 25 year olds of good perspective and people of experience who know how to take the locker room in hand.

Figures of experience

Another radical change occurred at a managerial level. AC Milan, for a guardly long period of time (fault recognized informally also within the club), has in fact managed without a sports area. Or rather: without figures who had specific experience in this sense. The results were under everyone’s eyes and the property ran to cover – in late -, hiring a “profession” sports director. Then there is the part relating to salaries. If until some time ago market operations and renewals had a polar star an indicative roof – however never made official and declared by the club – of about 4 million net, with very rare exceptions, now the parameters are less rigorous. This does not mean wretched, but in the presence of particularly important and functional purchases or renewals, you can climb. Finally, there is also another change of philosophy. Which cannot be radical, but is still a signal: the attempt to re-Italianize Milan, also because the US model is not superimposed on the needs of our football. And therefore: Allegri on the bench, Tare (acquired Italian) at the helm of the sports area, on the notebook of the management names such as Leoni, Comuzzo and Lucca. Transition in place in the devil’s house, in search of the best corporate model.
