Juve like Fikayo but the Rossoneri prefer to sell him abroad: with his departure, forward for the Valencia centre-back

Please gentlemen, the market carousel is about to reopen its doors. Even at Milan, in January there are those who could move up and those who, however, are destined to go down. Not just on the wing, where one of Okafor or Chukwueze should open the door to a new purchase (Akliouche from Monaco is the profile that is most liked, Leweling from Stuttgart is the first alternative). But also in defense, with Fikayo Tomori coveted in Italy and abroad. If the Englishman were to leave, the Rossoneri would then need to cover the hole in the squad. With who? The first on the list is Cristhian Mosquera, Spanish central defender born in 2004 for Valencia.

The situation

The crux of the matter remains Tomori. The former Chelsea player has lost his starting place in recent weeks, with Fonseca now appearing to give constant trust to the Gabbia-Thiaw duo. “Fik” accepted the bench without complaints, but it is clear that he cannot be happy with his current position at Milan. Because he was one of the protagonists of the championship with Pioli and had also joined the national team, before ending up off the radar of coaches Southgate and Carsley. Plus, he has no shortage of requests. Napoli has already done a survey and, it’s no mystery, Juventus also likes Tomori a lot. At Casa Milan, however, they definitely prefer the foreign track. In the Premier League it is above all Newcastle who have shown interest, while West Ham is holding out in the background. The price? There is no going down from 20-25 million euros. But the player will also have to have his say on any offers.

The candidate

As mentioned, Tomori’s departure would then force Milan to look for a replacement. The Rossoneri transfer market men already have a list of different profiles who have been followed in recent months. The idea was to invest in the summer. With the new scenario, however, the expense would obviously be anticipated. If anything, the obstacle would be convincing the other party to sell already in January. In Mosquera’s case, Valencia, currently second to last in the Liga and at strong risk of relegation. On the one hand, the Spanish club would not like to deprive themselves of the young talent to chase the goal of salvation, on the other there is the economic question: Los Che’s coffers are crying and the transfer of the defender would bring some oxygen. Also and above all considering his contract expiring on 30 June 2026. Mosquera, assisted by Sergio Barila (agent, among others, of former Milan player Carlos Bacca), is currently not considering the idea of renewing. He has already received certificates of esteem from important clubs (in addition to the Devil, also Atletico Madrid) and is unlikely to remain in the Valencian Community for long. How much do you value Valencia Mosquera? Around 25 million. A figure in line with the Rossoneri parameters, also considering the low salary of the central defender. In short, there is room to negotiate, also in light of the good relations between the two clubs, which concluded the Musah operation in the summer of 2023, having landed at Milan from Valencia.

Who is

Spanish (and therefore EU), but with Colombian parents, Mosquera is now in his fourth year with the first team, with which he debuted in 2021-22, despite his young age. And to think that the ball arrived after a tortuous path. As a child he preferred basketball, until a cousin convinced him to take up futsal, essentially because he was missing a player on the team. The step from five-a-side football to eleven-a-side football was natural. Since last year, Mosquera has become a regular starter at Valencia and has earned a place in the national team that won gold at the Paris Olympics in August, thanks to a good structure combined with decent technique for a defender. He is essential, but precise in his passes (over 90% successful), good at reading and above all deadly in duels and one-on-ones. The weak points? He has ample room for growth in terms of his ease in setting up and making full use of his physical gifts (he is 188 centimeters tall, but, for example, he is not yet dominant in the air). Milan, as mentioned, were thinking of him for the summer, after following him for months. He is not yet considered at the top, despite having potential as a great defender. The market, however, has its own timing, which is why Tomori’s farewell would be a strong incentive to welcome Mosquera early at Milanello.
