Mikko and Helena Koivu’s divorce proceedings continue in court

In its recent decision, the US court has considered Mikko and Helena Koivun that the prenuptial agreement is valid, and Finnish law is followed in the matter.

Therefore, Helena Koivu would not have the right to the property of former NHL hockey player Mikko Koivu. Mikko earned around 70 million euros during his NHL career.

Koivut announced their separation in February 2020.

Helena’s lawyer Erno Kuivasaari tells Iltalehte that the verdict is not yet legally binding and an appeal has been filed. So the matter has not been completely resolved.

According to Kuivasaari, several things are taken into account in the reasonableness assessment.

– It takes into account, for example, the duration of the marriage and the actions of both for the economy and the household, says Kuivasaari.

The evaluation also looks at whether Helena’s actions have enabled Miko’s NHL career to continue.

The decision will be made in the near future.

The Koivs got married in 2014. The Koivs filed for divorce in 2020, but they have not yet been sentenced to divorce.

Iltalehti reported earlier today how the US court ordered the residence of the family’s three children to be Turku, where Mikko lives.

The ex-couple has joint custody of the children.
