Shiffrin’s own staff pierced him.

Mikaela Shiffrin posted some wild material about her injuries on Instagram.

The alpine skier fell violently in the Killington giant slalom race last weekend and said at the time that something had “stabbed” him in the accident.

Now Shiffrin reveals that it was his own stick.

– Maybe it pierced me, and then I rolled over it, causing the stick to dig a small hole in my side. You can never tell. I’m just happy that the injuries were just to the muscles, he writes.

According to the American, the situation could have been much worse.

– It was close enough that the stick didn’t pierce my internal organs. It would have changed my situation completely.

Many had speculated to Shiffrin that the wound would have been caused by the safety nets along the course or the backpack that was next to the net. However, he wants to deny those rumours.

– The damage happened even before I got to the nets. I have watched the situation on video several times, Shiffrin assures.
