Mihambo saves a medal in the last attempt

The German long jump athlete Malaika Mihambo made it exciting. It was only in the last attempt at the European Halle Championships for the podium.

Malaika Mihambo won bronze at the European Halls Championships in Apeldoorn. At 6.88 meters, the Olympic champion jumped onto the podium in the last attempt. The Italian Larissa Iapichino secured the title with a width of 6.94 meters. Mihambo was not completely satisfied with her performance. “Overall, the competition was good, but below my possible potential,” she said after the final. It was only in the last attempt that she managed a valid jump near her best performance.

Teammate Mikaelle Assani suffered a fall when you start and was medical care. She took eighth place with 6.32 meters. An examination resulted in a muscular injury in the left thigh flap. In the shot put, Yemisi Ogunleye won silver with 19.56 meters. Gold went to the Dutchwoman Jessica Schilder, who achieved the world year best with 20.69 meters.

Heditor Till Steinforth secured bronze and set up a new German indoor record with 6,388 points. He surpassed Leo Neugebauer’s previous record by 41 points. He asserted himself in third place with a narrow lead of eight points.
