FOOTBALL – World Football Association FIFA and European Football Association UEFA suspend Russia from international football until further notice. That probably means that the Dutch football players will not play against the Russians in the upcoming European Championship, from whom they were drawn in the group.
The suspension of the associations applies to all club teams and the representative national teams. Keeping out the Russians is the sanction for the incursion of army troops into Ukraine.
The Orange Women with Hoogeveen top scorer Vivianne Miedema and Sherida Spitse, who lives in Emmen, will play the European Championship in England next summer. In group C, the Orange squad was assigned to Sweden, Switzerland and therefore Russia. The game against Russia was scheduled for July 13.
Men
The next game that mattered to Russian football was the play-off for the men’s World Cup at the end of this year in Qatar. Russia was to meet Poland on March 24. Poland had already indicated that they would not play this match under any circumstances. The suspension means that this match will not take place anyway.
