It is a first for Middelkerke: for the first time the coastal municipality received a classic. The event not only brings sporting sensation, but also a lot of visitors and tourism. As mayor Jean-Marie Dedecker puts it: “Our economy here mainly revolves around tourism. Everything that attracts people is welcome. Cycling events like these are a wonderful showcase – racing is hot in Flanders.”
