In September last year they started the restoration of the Keizer Karelschouw in ‘t Brugse Vrije. It is one of the most important Renaissance works of art in the Netherlands. But parts of the mantelpiece and also beams in the attic have been affected by larvae of the knocker beetle.

Now there is a microwave generator to treat the wood. “That is a lot safer than heating the entire space, because then a fire can occur,” says wood restorer Martijn Remmen.
