The municipality of Vihti announces that representatives of the municipality and Microsoft have signed a deed of sale for the land in Nummela in Vihti.

The surface area of the area is approximately 46 hectares and its price tag is 12.3 million euros. The land is located in the area between the Turku highway and Vanhan Turuntie, and Microsoft plans to build a data center in the area.

Municipal manager Erkki Eerola says in the press release that the data center is the largest investment in Vihti’s history and the municipality is happy to welcome Microsoft.

– The data center is a major employer during the construction phase and, upon completion, one of Vihti’s most significant employers. The project is a great demonstration of our municipality’s potential, which our location and our developing business life offer.

The data center is part of Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure, i.e. the technology enabling the provision of cloud services.

In addition to Vihti, Microsoft is building a second data center in Espoo and a third in Kirkkonummi. The data centers in Vihti, Espoo and Kirkkonummi will together form a data center area concept, where three independently functioning data centers are synchronized with each other.

The construction of the data centers will begin after all three locations have been confirmed and the necessary permits have been obtained.
