Mickey Mantle’s baseball trading card sold for a huge sum at an auction in the United States.

CNN’s according to the report, the card was bought for 12.6 million dollars, i.e. about 12.6 million euros.

The card is from the 1952 Topps series and is in very good condition. Mantle played for the New York Yankees for 17 years and the card in question is from his rookie season. Mantle was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1974.

The card thus became the most valuable sports collectible of all time, according to Heritage Auctions.

According to CNN, the card was paid twice as much as the rare one Honus Wagner of a trading card that sold for $6.6 million last year. The amount in question was also a record at the time.

– We always knew that this card would break records and expectations. But that doesn’t make it any less exciting to attend an auction where a single item breaks the eight-figure mark for the first time, according to Heritage’s sports auctioneer Chris Ivy said in the release.

– It’s a real miracle that Mantle’s rookie season card has remained in this condition for 70 years, he continued.
