Mick Schumacher finally wants to find the middle ground in Formula 1 between getting into the points and having a costly accident.
“We want to score points, and we have to take some risks to do that,” said the Haas driver before the Baku Grand Prix (Sunday, 1 p.m. / Sky): “It’s up to me to find the right balance. “
The 23-year-old admitted that he “still has to learn a little more” in this area. Without risk, however, you quickly end up in 15th place in the narrow midfield.
Schumacher had already caused two total losses on his Haas this season, in Saudi Arabia and most recently in Monaco. In addition, an accident with Aston Martin driver Sebastian Vettel in Miami cost him his first points in the premier class, which he is still waiting for.
“If I had rewarded myself for the performance, then the discussion would look different now,” said Schumacher, but the first points were “only a matter of time”.

His team boss Günther Steiner said little after the crash in Monaco, but his words left a lot of room for interpretation: “We have to see how we can continue from here.”
Before the race in Baku, he explained that it was important to analyze the problems in detail: “There is no easy solution, we have to look at many things.”
