Mick Schumacher missed a top 20 finish at the IndyCar race in Birmingham for the third time in four races.
At the fourth race of the IndyCar Series season at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama, Mick Schumacher crossed the finish line in 24th and penultimate place. It was the third disappointment in four races for the former Formula 1 driver – he has not yet achieved a top 20 placement.
Schumacher started from position 20 for the RLL team. Over 90 laps he temporarily slipped to last place. Teammate Louis Foster from Great Britain ended up lagging behind him. The Spaniard Álex Palou won. He started the race from first place on the grid and prevailed as Schumacher’s Honda brand colleague.
The season so far has been changeable for the 26-year-old. At the opener in St. Petersburg/Florida he was eliminated on the first lap after an accident that was not his fault. In Phoenix/Arizona he was 18th and in Arlington/Texas 22nd.
After stints in Formula 1 and most recently in the World Endurance Championship (WEC), Schumacher is the first German IndyCar driver in 21 years. Before him, Timo Glock was the last German in the series in 2005.
