Mick Schumacher reacts to Haas’ tough announcement

Mick Schumacher’s future in Formula 1 is still open. Team owner Gene Haas recently increased the pressure on the 23-year-old. In view of the statements made by the American entrepreneur, he is particularly relaxed.

“It’s an opinion he has and one that I accept. Of course I understand it. We’re all on the same page, points are all our goal, so we’re trying to do our best,” said Schumacher on the side the US Grand Prix in Austin on “Sky”.

In an “AP” interview, Gene Haas made clear statements about a possible contract extension with the son of Formula 1 record world champion Michael Schumacher.

“It’s up to Mick Schumacher how to proceed. He has to score,” said the team owner.

Mick cost Haas “a fortune and destroyed a lot of cars, which cost us a lot of money, money we don’t have. If you’re Verstappen and you score points regularly, we can handle it. But if you’re behind and break cars, it’s very difficult.”

Formula 1 points in the end of the season? That’s what Mick Schumacher says

Despite this blatant criticism from the Haas board, Mick Schumacher was optimistic that he could still score a few points with the team by the end of the season.

“We do our best and work hard. We have improved very well and have improved extremely in everything. But of course the other teams too, with their updates and so on,” said the 2020 Formula 2 champion.

Haas has “the chance to finish in the points at every race weekend that comes along,” explained Schumacher.

The German Formula 1 driver also commented on his relationship with Haas team boss Günther Steiner, who has also publicly criticized his protégé several times in recent months.

“We’re having open talks. But the biggest goal for us at the moment is to finish in the points,” said Schumacher.
