Mick Schumacher on documentary with Papa Michael: “Extremely difficult to watch a film”

Mick Schumacher has had an eventful year. In an interview he spoke about his first season in Formula 1 and he also speaks very emotionally about Papa Michael’s documentary.

For Mick Schumacher, in addition to notable successes in his first Formula 1 season, the publication of the Netflix documentary about his father Michael was “a special moment”.

In addition to the successes, this film should also show the human part of his dad, said the 22-year-old in the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung”. “I think it is very, very well done. But at the same time it is extremely difficult for me to watch the film. That shows how much feeling there is, how many emotions it triggers,” explained the racing driver from the US Haas team.

The documentary about the life of record world champion Michael Schumacher was published on September 15th. The Kerpener’s unique career is highlighted, but the serious skiing accident in December 2013 is not left out either. The now 52-year-old suffered a traumatic brain injury in a fall despite a helmet and was in mortal danger. The Netflix documentary does not provide any information about Schumacher’s exact state of health.

Comparison with Papa Michael

His son Mick now admitted that he was trying to go his own way. “But I’m already looking for a comparison with my papa,” he told the “FAS”. He has the greatest respect for what his father had achieved, he worked hard for all the victories and championships and received nothing for free. “That impressed me, the power and energy he showed, the concentration to always be 100 percent involved. I do believe that I get something out of it,” said Mick Schumacher.

In his first Formula 1 season, the 22-year-old had finished 19th in the world championship in the defeated Haas. In the coming season he will be a substitute driver at Ferrari.
