IndyCar in Detroit
Last: Next setback for Mick Schumacher

The son of the Formula 1 record world champion is working his way from the back of the field to the top group in Detroit. But then everything turns out completely differently than expected.
Mick Schumacher suffered the next blow in the IndyCar Series. At the eighth round of the season in Detroit, the former Formula 1 driver finished last. The 27-year-old had slipped into the barriers with his Honda and therefore had no chance of a better placing. Bitter: Previously, he had worked his way up from 23rd place on the grid to the top group.
After the start, Schumacher initially made up ground. In the second half of the race, he fell by the wayside during the competition’s pit stop phase – and found himself in the leading group. In a sharp left turn he turned in in a duel with title candidate David Malukas. His Honda from the RLL team slipped over the front axle into the barriers. Malukas also fell far behind as a result.
Defending champion Alex Palou took the victory. The Spaniard thus significantly extended his lead in the overall standings. Schumacher’s best placement in his debut season remains 17th place. The highlight so far was the Indy 500: Last weekend he completed 200 laps on the legendary circuit, finished 18th and was awarded the title of Rookie of the Year as the best newcomer.
