Michiel Pijl nominated as the new mayor of Medemblik

The municipal council of Medemblik has nominated Michiel Pijl as the new mayor. Mark Hoogewerf, chairman of the selection committee, announced this tonight.

The 44-year-old has been mayor of the municipality of Drechterland since 2016. He says he is honored with the nomination: “I thank the city council for the trust. Medemblik is a great municipality and I look forward to getting to work, together with the residents, the council, the municipal executive and the civil servants. I hope to become a visible mayor for the residents of all 17 cores.”

The nomination still has to go through the Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations, after which the appointment will be decided by Royal Decree. He is expected to take up his position as mayor on September 26.

Until then, Dennis Straat will remain acting mayor. Former mayor Frank Streng has now said goodbye, he was mayor for 12 years.
