Michele Bravi and his Musical Comedy

A combination that had tickled him for a while. «The idea of combining my love for theater with pop music had been in my head for some time», Bravi’s words reported by Ansa. «Before today I never had the opportunity or the presumption to start writing it, because I knew it would be a extremely divisive record, so much so that when I started thinking about it there wasn’t the idea of releasing it immediately.”

Something, however, then changed and everything took the right direction. “The idea found credibility once it was presented to an ear that wasn’t just mine,” Bravi explained. «It’s an extremely presumptuous record because I wanted to combine musical comedy, which is a theatrical genre, with more popular writing. The result was a psychedelic, almost grotesque work, because in some passages it almost makes no sense.”

It’s called Musical Comedy the new album by Michele Bravi (IPA).

An album for “every day” and not at all “twilight”

Michele Bravi defines this work as «a dialogue album», who speaks «how we speak in everyday life. It is the soundtrack of a wrong everyday life, one in which perhaps nothing happens but everything is continually accompanied by music.” A choice that also marks a breaking point with past works: «They were more crepuscular. This is instead an extremely sunny album, because it makes me smile». Bravi does not deny that it would have been more comfortable to remain in his comfort zone, the one to which he has accustomed his audience, but he felt the need to go further and say something else.

From faith to parenthood, the themes of the album

There are many themes addressed by Bravi in his new work, from the one with the Church to The invisible man: “I am not part of it and I do not respond to its religious figures even if I respect them because they are a reference for many”, he declared, Parent 3where he talks about parenthood: «I want to become a parent, I am ready to love, I have the emotional and financial means to welcome someone into my life. In my case though I am told no because there are great bureaucratic difficulties to overcome (the artist is homosexual, ed). It’s not such an easy road to travel. So I wonder if it is right for someone to decide such an intimate thing for us”, his words. The debut of the new album will also be followed by a tour: the first date is on May 22nd, in Milan.
