Sven Michel from SC Paderborn has tipped the 31st matchday for Transfermarkt. The 35-year-old offensive player is counting on a 3-0 win for Hamburg in St. Pauli’s relegation clash against 1. After Pauli’s gap in 15th place was five points last matchday due to Werder Bremen’s win in the northern derby against Hamburger SV, Michel believes this has shrunk to two points. According to the ex-Augsburg player, neither HSV can win in its game against TSG Hoffenheim (1:2) nor Werder in its duel with VfB Stuttgart (0:2). The HSV has finally arrived in the middle of the relegation battle, the Dino has been waiting for a win for five games – in the form table that means the penultimate place, only city rival Pauli is worse.
Bremen also suffered a setback after winning the derby. Since Daniel Thioune took office as Horst Steffen’s successor, the Green-Whites have only seen extremes. Four wins versus six defeats, a draw doesn’t seem to be an option for Bremen. Since, according to Michel’s assessment, Wolfsburg achieved its second win in a row against Borussia Mönchengladbach and 1. FC Köln lost 3-0 against Bayer Leverkusen, the relegation field is moving closer together again. There are only four points between Wolfsburg (17) and Cologne (12).
At his former club Union Berlin, Michel is tipping for a surprise win against Champions League contenders RB Leipzig (3-0). For Marie-Louise Eta it means the first victory in the coaching bench of the Iron Men and the Berliners are taking an important step towards staying in the league.
Thanks to the Leipzig defeat and the victories of VfB, Hoffenheim and Leverkusen, the excitement in the race for the premier class remains after Michel. With 55 points, sixth-placed Leverkusen is four points behind a direct Champions League starting place. If the Bundesliga gets a fifth CL place, it would – as of today – only be two points. After Bayern, Michel is also hoping to secure qualification for the premier class at Borussia Dortmund. After the 35-year-old, BVB won 3-1 against SC Freiburg and can only fall back to fourth place. After two defeats in a row, Dortmund managed to win again, but for Freiburg the loss of points was a setback in the fight for the Conference League.
