Nieuwenhuis forced the holeshot and held that position for a long time. Halfway through the race, Pim Ronhaar took a stab at the leading group of eleven riders. In the seventh of a total of nine rounds to be completed, Sweeck also briefly stuck his nose to the window. Joran Wyseure literally and figuratively fell away from the front and so a leading group of ten started the final lap. Vanthourenhout, Nieuwenhuis, Sweeck, Niels Vandeputte and Ryan Kamp closed the gap on the rest in the final. Vanthourenhout started his final sprint from very far away and held his ground. Nieuwenhuis had to settle for the closest place of honor.
Thibau Nys (Baloise Glowi Lions), winner of the first two heats, was not at the start in Sardinia, but remains leader in the World Cup. After three heats he leads Sweeck and Nieuwenhuis with 80 points. The fourth round will be held in Namur next Sunday.
