Darter Michael van Gerwen says he was completely surprised when he was hit at a party in Den Bosch during King’s Night. “I was really a bit surprised. What is happening here?”
On King’s Night, a party in Den Bosch got out of hand. Van Gerwen got into conversation with a man there, after which the atmosphere changed. Images show that an altercation ensues and the man punches the darts player. Security guards immediately intervene and remove the man.
“I was really a bit surprised. He was with a group and I asked a girl who was walking with him: ‘why is he acting aggressive?’ I don’t know him at all,” Van Gerwen says Show news.
According to the darts player, this situation is different from an earlier incident in September, when he was involved in a fight in a döner shop in Den Bosch. Images circulated showing how Van Gerwen ended up in a struggle with another man.
“Then it was more stupidity on my part. But now I haven’t even spoken a word to that guy,” says the darts player. “I think it’s very strange, but that’s why I think I can defend myself.”
The darts player emphasizes that he has now put it behind him. “The fact that I had a text from him the next day apologizing, and his wife had to tell him what he did the day before… I think that was enough,” he says.
Van Gerwen indicates that the organization asked him if he wanted to report the incident, but that he decided against it. “I think it was such a small incident. After that, I simply continued with the order of the day,” he says.
That’s the end of the matter for him and he sees no reason to do anything further with it. “Just because I’m a famous person, people are more likely to be very annoying. It’s a shame that it actually has to be this way.”
